Our half day tour comprises of 3 stops which includes a chocolate and wine pairing, a cheese and wine pairing as well as lunch. Our stops on this tour option are:
Middlevlei estate, where we get to taste straight from the barrel and get to understand how a cellar works. After that, we sit down and get to sample a traditional lunch which is a braai(BBQ) and taste wine during lunch.
Lovane, where we do our chocolate and wine pairing, a beautiful small and cosy boutique wine estate where we have taken their wines and teamed up with a local chocolatier to give you a lovely experience. Lovane is one of the smallest wine estates in Stellenbosch, only producing 15000 bottles a year.
Mitre’s Edge, where we can meet and greet a winemaker when available. This stop is all about cheese and wine, with breathtaking views and that off the beaten track feel.

Wine Flies is thumbs up! - Wine Flies is the way to do wine tasting in Stellenbosch. The 4 wineries that were on our itinerary were all great stops for various reasons. Tasty wines,... read more beautiful views, smart winemakers, and excellent pairings of cheeses and chocolates. The guide that day Corbis ( sp?) was beyond fantastic. His knowledge of the grapes grown and the wines made in the area along with a sharp sense of humor made our day very enjoyable. He had his hands full with the group of SA women on our tour and handled himself very well !! Jokes aside, the group of ladies were fun-loving and ready to imbibe!! All went well for the entire day. Strongly recommend Wine Flies wine tour in the Stellenbosch region. If you get lucky enough to have Cobis (sp?) as your guide/driver/teacher then you have hit the wine tasting jackpot.

Fantastic day in the wine region - On our first ever trip to SA, we couldn't decide on a stay in the wine region or take a day trip from our base in Cape Town. We opted... read more for the latter and what a brilliant day it was. I want to say that our driver/guide/comedian was Labushagne but a million apologies if I have this wrong!
There was a slight mix-up with the pickup but very quickly resolved and off we went to explore 4 different vineyards. The first was sparkling/white wine with some biltong and a walk round the vineyard and explanations of the processes involved. Then off to a wine/cheese pairing in a gorgeous house in a beautiful spot, then for lunch (braii) with wine and finally (my favourite) to a small boutique vineyard for chocolate and red/dessert wine pairing. The owner here took time to show us round the cellar and give an insight into his philosophy on making fantastic wine.
Everyone we met was incredibly friendly and we felt really looked after. Naturally the wines were all brilliant and the day was made by Labuschagne (?) with his knowledge, commentary and overall lovely personality.
We were dropped off at the V&A Waterfront for a relaxed walk back to the hotel after a great day.
I would clearly recommend this to anyone.

Alas was I in for a pleasant surprise. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable making listening to his narrative very interesting. In fact, he mentioned to us on the way to the first vineyard that by the time we were returning, the bus would be warm and chatty. Turns out, he was right again!
From the friendly staff, to amazing food, to awesome ambiance, not to mention the lovely wine selection for our toured vineyards, we were returning to our hotel with strangers turned buddies as we goofed around all the way back. It was indeed an outing worth every penny!!!
