Our day tours are not your normal. Our experiences are truly authentic, real, and cultural. Here’s a breakdown of how our wine tours in Cape Town run:
We start on our day tour, with lovely Mitre’s edge, situated in the Stellenbosch wine region, where we can meet and pair wines with the winemaker. Your guide will take you through the basic steps of wine tasting, what to pair with which wine, what bottle to order at your next dinner and so on. Most importantly, this stop is all about cheese and wine pairing, with that off the beaten track feel. Think creamy Feta paired with a crispy Sauvignon Blanc or Blue Cheese infused with cranberries, paired with a spicy Shiraz. From there it is a 15 minute drive to our next stop. onto Franschhoek.
Through a stunning valley, we arrive at Topiary. This boutique family-run wine estate has spectacular views, looking onto the wine lands. The views are breathtaking. Our guide will take you into the vineyards and their cellar for an in-depth cellar tour, learning exactly how grapes become wine. Here we have, top end Rosé, MCC (Champaigne), white and red wines. Their wines are special. Here we also do delicious local cured meat pairings with their wines.
Yes, Franschhoek is South Africa’s cuisine capital. Local and fusion food, to explore next. This is our next stop, at Rickety Bridge wine estate. The old history of the wine farm dates back to 1694 when Rickety Bridge was originally part of French Huguenot farms in Franschhoek. Here we have a choice of local food lunch options, followed by a wine tasting on the terrace, overlooking the Franschhoek mountains.
We then have the option to stroll down the quaint main road of Franschhoek, with all its little delis and shops, giving us time for a quick shopping trip.
Then we drive back over the beautiful Hell’s Hoogte mountain pass and do a guided tour through the historic (the oldest TOWN in South Africa; Cape Town is SA’s oldest CITY) of Stellenbosch. We then visit Lovane which is one of the smallest wine estates in Stellenbosch, only producing 15000 bottles a year. A true hidden gem. We are lucky enough to pair all their different wine wines with different locally made Fair Trade accredited chocolates. Dark chocolate with peppercorns paired with a Shiraz, white chocolate infused with gooseberries to pair with a Chenin Blanc, and more…
With our bellies filled and feeling quite tipsy, we drive back safely to Cape Town where you will be dropped off at your respective accommodation. Happy times and probably your best day in SA!
